PLA, poly lactic acid, English name for Polylactic aicd, hereinafter referred to as the PLA. It is the general name of a kind of polymer obtained by polymerization of starch extracted from renewable plant resources (such as corn) as the main raw material
The PLA's mechanical properties and physical properties is good, good thermal stability, processing temperature 170-230 ºC; with excellent resistance to solvent and biodegradable. The products made from polylactic acid are not only biocompatible, but also have good gloss, transparency, patience and heat resistance, as well as certain bacteria resistance, flame retardant and ultraviolet resistance, and have excellent tensile strength and elongation
The PLA's pure resin as translucent or opaque granular amorphous polymers, feel more comfortable, melting point is 175-185  ºC its glass transition temperature of 50-65 ºC;  PLA is composed of starch and has good biodegradability. After being used, PLA can be completely degraded by microorganisms in nature and eventually generate carbon dioxide and water without polluting the environment, which is very beneficial to environmental protection and is recognized as an environment-friendly material.
When PLA burns, it will not release nitrogen compounds, sulphides and other toxic gases. The human body also contains lactic acid in the form of monomers, which fully demonstrates the high safety of this decomposition product.
PLA has its own digital identifier, which is specified by the Society of plastic industry (SPI) as "7".
