YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Radio station 88.5 WYSU-FM will air holiday programs between Wednesday, Dec. 22, and Sunday, Dec. 26. Normal programming will air on Christmas Day, much of it with a holiday theme. Here is the schedule:

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.:  Holiday classical music with Gary Sexton

7 p.m.: “Performance Today” (live performances of holiday music from around the country.)

9-10 a.m.: “Hollywood Holiday.” Lynne Warfel takes listeners on a musical retrospective of some of Hollywood’s most cherished Christmas themed movies. 

10-11 a.m.: “Hygge Holiday.” Hygge is taking pleasure in warm and gentle things, which this program does with nostalgic favorites for the winter season. 

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Holiday classical music  with Gary Sexton

1-2 p.m.: “A Chanticleer Christmas.” Holiday favorites, new and old, will be presented live in concert by Chanticleer, a 12-man ensemble known as “an orchestra of voices.”

2-3 p.m.: “A Choral Christmas With Stile Antico.” Stile Antico pays a visit to St. Paul’s church on Harvard Square for a concert of sacred music for the Christmas season by Renaissance composers.

7-9 p.m.: “Performance Today.” Live performances of holiday music from around the country.

9-10 p.m.: St. Olaf Christmas Festival. Programming includes sacred choral and instrumental music from many traditions.

9-10 a.m.: “Welcome Christmas.” Traditional carols and new discoveries, including the world premiere of two carols from the annual Christmas Carol Contest.  

10 a.m. to noon: “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.” A worldwide Christmas Eve broadcast of a service of Biblical readings, carols and related seasonal Classical music, presented in the  Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, England.

Noon: “Christmas with the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.” Touching arrangements of familiar carols and surprises.

1-2 p.m. “All is Bright.” Contemplative music related to the Christmas season and its symbolism. Featured artists include Cambridge Singers, Cantus,and Chanticleer.

2-3 p.m.: “A Soulful Christmas.” Uplifting music in the classical, gospel, spiritual and jazz-inspired styles.

7 p.m.: “Jazz with David Basse.”

4 p.m.: “Ford’s Theatre Presents: A Christmas Carol.” WAMU and Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., present a contemporary radio play of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”

BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Davis Family YMCA in Boardman is seeking donations of 5-inch by 5-inch works of art for its 2022 FIVE Squared benefit art show and sale. People of all ages and skill levels can participate. Art can be in any medium but must be light enough to hand on a wall with sticky tack. Frames, mats and wire hangers are not required.

The deadline to submit art is Jan. 17. Art can be delivered, along with the entry form, to the YMCA, or mailed to Suzanne Gray, Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, Boardman, OH 44512. 

Adults may donate up to eight pieces, and children four pieces. Art will be sold for $25 each ($10 for children’s art). Artists must put their name on the back of each piece.  

The entry form can be downloaded at the Gallery at the Y, ymcaart.blogspot.com and the Youngstown YMCA website, ymcayo.org/arts-humanities  Forms are also available at the desk, in the lobby, and the art studio at Davis.

All proceeds fund the Y’s ARTreach program, which offers free art classes to underserved children and families.

The opening reception, at which all art will be on display, will be Feb. 6, from 1:30-3.  p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mahoning Valley Historical Society will extend hours for its Memories of Christmas Past exhibit at Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave., during the week of Dec. 27. 

 Typically closed on Mondays, the museum will be open on Dec. 27-29 from noon to 4 p.m. The exhibit will be open on Dec. 30 for Twilight Thursday until 7 p.m. The final day of the exhibit will be Dec. 31, from noon to 7 p.m.
